Identification of cases and estimate of direct costs of unresectable and advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma: real-world data from a large Italian database.

Identification of cases and estimate of direct costs of unresectable and advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma: real-world data from a large Italian database. Br J Dermatol. 2020 Jan 23;: Authors: Ronconi G, Piccinni C, Dondi L, Calabria S, Pedrini A, Esposito I, Ascierto PA, Naldi L, Martini N Abstract Precise epidemiology data on cutaneous Squamous-Cell Carcinoma (cSCC) are difficult to obtain since: the tumour is not included in many cancer registries; when included, only the first tumour is usually registered, in spite of frequent occurrence of subsequent lesions; the tumour's traceability may be incomplete due to usual management in the outpatient or private setting. A systematic review reported that the incidence of cSCC varies widely worldwide and is on the rise(1). Consequently, cSCC is an emergent public health problem, with costs ranging from £33 to £46 million each year(2). PMID: 31972051 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
