Zhujie Hewei Granules Ameliorated Reflux Esophagitis in Rats. Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2019;2019:1392020 Authors: Qiu Y, Hu JL, Zhao CC, Zhang JQ, Wu F, Ma BL, Feng Y, Ruan KF Abstract Background: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERDs) is a common chronic digestive system disease, in which the symptoms of reflux esophagitis (RE) seriously affect the quality of life. Aims: We aimed to study the therapeutic effect of Zhujie Hewei granules (ZHG) on reflux esophagitis in model rats. Materials and Methods: A rat model of RE was established with the steps of half pylorus ligation, cardiotomy, and hydrochloric acid perfusion. The rats in treatment groups were orally administered with 1.30, 2.60, or 5.20 g/kg ZHG once daily for 28 days. Histopathological changes of the esophagus were observed with hematoxylin-eosin staining. The content of total bilirubin and pH in gastric juice was determined. Esophageal mucosal injury was assessed by macroscopic observation scores, mucosal injury index scores, and esophageal inflammation scores. The levels of gastrin (GAS), motilin (MTL), and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) in serum were evaluated by using ELISA kits. Results: After treatment with ZHG, the body weight of RE rats tended to increase drastically, the macroscopic observation scores of the esophagus mucous membrane decreased (P
BackgroundBased on 122 cases reported in China, data mining indicated that Sini Powder (SNP) and the Zuojin Pill (ZJP) are both widely used as the basic recipe for treating Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).ObjectivesTo evaluate the intervention effects of Sini Zuojin Decoction (SNZJD) in patients with GERD.MethodsA comprehensive collection of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) using SNZJD in patients with GERD that were published in domestic and foreign journals was made by computer retrieval. RevMan 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis and bias risk assessment, Stata 14.0 software was used for sensitivity analys...

Uterine fibroids affect up to 80% of reproductive-aged women. Although many women are asymptomatic, fibroids can cause pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, anemia, urinary frequency, infertility, and adverse pregnancy outcomes that can impair quality of life. Fifty percent of women with symptomatic fibroids report a detrimental impact on their mental and physical health (1). Fibroids appear to have a greater impact on quality of life than other chronic conditions, including asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (2).
AbstractThe aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) in patients with febrile convulsion (FC). For this, patients that were diagnosed with FC in 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Those with epilepsy, motor/mental retardation, or spina bifida were excluded. Mid-stream urine samples were collected in children who were toilet trained while sterile bags were used in the smaller. Urinary tract infection (UTI) was defined as ˃ 5 leucocytes/HPF in urinalysis and a subsequent positive urine culture (≥ 10.000 CFU/ml). Children with UTI were further investigated via voiding cystourethrogram...
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that vonoprazan is non-inferior to PPIs as therapy for patients with GERD. Subgroup analysis indicates that vonoprazan is more effective than PPIs for patients with severe erosive esophagitis. The safety outcomes for vonoprazan are similar to those for PPIs.
Conclusions: Children with rumination syndrome have a distinct pattern of impedance-pH monitoring and can be distinguished amongst children presenting with refractory GERD. Applying a simple scoring system during impedance-pH analysis could lead to early diagnosis of children with rumination syndrome.

AbstractBackgroundGastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) can present with typical or atypical or laryngo-pharyngeal reflux (LPR) symptoms. Pulmonary aspiration of gastric refluxate is one of the most serious variants of reflux disease as its complications are difficult to diagnose and treat. The aim of this study was to establish predictors of pulmonary aspiration and LPR symptoms.MethodsRecords of 361 consecutive patient from a prospectively populated database were analyzed. Patients were categorized by symptom profile as predominantly LPR or GERD (98 GER and 263 LPR). Presenting symptom profile, pH studies, esophageal m...
