Conclusions Machine learning is an effective method for the prediction of expansion risk of AAA. Abdominal aortic aneurysm area and major axis of AAA are the important factors to reflect AAA expansion.

This study compares the effect of Helicobacter (H.) pylori and Lactobacillus (L.) acidophilus on the cytokine profile of PBMCs of 5 men with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and 5 men with normal/insignificant angiography, CT-Scan and ultrasonography results in the single-culture and in the co-culture with HUVECs. IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-9, IL-10, IL-13, IL-17A, IL-17 F, IL-21, IL-22, IFN-γ and TNF-α were measured in culture supernatants using a commercial fluorescent-labeled-bead assay. In general, CagA+ H. pylori-extract induced higher production of IFN-γ, IL-13 and IL-21 by PBMCs. Treatment of ...

Objectives The aim of this study was to compare image quality, conspicuity, and endoleak detection between single-energy low-kV images (SEIs) and dual-energy low-keV virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs+) in computed tomography angiography of the aorta after endovascular repair. Materials and Methods An abdominal aortic aneurysm phantom simulating 36 endoleaks (2 densities; diameters: 2, 4, and 6 mm) in a medium- and large-sized patient was used. Each size was scanned using single-energy at 80 kVp (A) and 100 kVp (B), and dual-energy at 80/Sn150kVp for the medium (C) and 90/Sn150kVp for the large size (D). VMIs+ at 40 k...

Introduction: EVAR (Endo Vascular Aortic Repair) is the first line therapy for the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). The most frequent post-operative complications of EVAR are endoleaks (EL) that occur when blood leaks back into the aneurysm sac. Type II EL is the most frequent complication requiring lifelong surveillance by radiological imaging. Nowadays, according to guidelines, Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) scan represents the gold standard modality of imaging to detect EL.

This study investigated the interrelation between plasma D-dimer level, ILT volume, AAA size and progression.Main methodsThis was a retrospective observational study that involved 181 patients with infra-renal AAA. They were divided into small and large AAA groups according to AAA diameter. 24 of them had repeated abdominal computed tomography angiography (CTA) scan and were divided into slow-growing and fast-growing AAA groups according to the median value of AAA growth rate. Baseline and follow-up plasma D-dimer level, maximum diameter of AAA, total infra-renal aortic volume and ILT volume were analyzed.Key findingsPlasm...

Aortoenteric fistula (AEF) is a rare cause of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. If not promptly diagnosed and treated the associated mortality is very high. The role of endovascular treatment is not yet defined. In this paper we report a clinical case of a 94-year-old male admitted in the emergency department with rectal bleeding. Due to detection of a pulsatile abdominal mass, a computed tomography angiography (CTA) scan was performed, which established the diagnosis of aorto-enteric fistula due to a left common iliac artery aneurysm (CIAA) ruptured to the sigmoid colon and also revealed an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) a...

ConclusionsThis study identified the sources of fusion error after insertion of rigid material during EVAR. As the sharpest angulation between aneurysm neck and sac increases, the overall accuracy of the fusion might be affected.

ConclusionsRRED was smaller than the actual diameter in more than half of pre-rupture AAAs, suggesting a lower rupture risk than estimated with the actual diameter. The results suggest that the currently available biomechanical imaging markers might not be ready for use in clinical practice.

We present a case of a type Ia endoleak detected using 18F-FDG PET/CT 10 years after an abdominal aortoiliac endovascular aneurysm repair in an 83-year-old man. The 18F-FDG PET/CT scan was performed to evaluate a solitary pulmonary nodule but, in addition, demonstrated unexpected blood pool activity outside the stent graft and within the abdominal aortic aneurysm sac, indicating an endoleak; no FDG activity should be present within the aneurysm sac after stent graft placement. A subsequent CT angiogram confirmed the endoleak. This case illustrates the value of PET/CT in unexpectedly demonstrating this serious, late complic...
