Comparison of serum cancer antigen 125, human epididymis protein 4, ROMA, and CPH-I for diagnosis of ovarian cancer in Chinese patients with ovarian mass.

CONCLUSIONS: This study confirms the accuracy of HE4, ROMA, and CPH-I for differentiating malignant from benign ovarian mass, and all these 3 tests show better performance than CA125. Furthermore, HE4 and CPH-I is superior to ROMA and CA125 in terms of specificity, while CA125 and ROMA have better diagnostic sensitivities. PMID: 31907150 [PubMed - in process]

AbstractPurposeTo investigate the value of CT and MR imaging features in differentiating borderline ovarian tumor (BOT) from type I ovarian epithelial cancer (OEC), which could be significant for suitable clinical treatment and assessment of the prognosis of the patient.MethodsThirty-three patients with BOTs and 35 patients with type I OECs proven by pathology were retrospectively evaluated. The clinico-pathological information (age, premenopausal status, CA-125, and Ki-67) and imaging characteristics were compared between two groups of ovarian tumors. The diagnostic performance of the imaging features was evaluated using ...

SummaryTo determine whether ultrasound features can improve the diagnostic performance of tumor markers in distinguishing ovarian tumors, we enrolled 719 patients diagnosed as having ovarian tumors at Nanfang Hospital from September 2014 to November 2016. Age, menopausal status, histopathology, the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stages, tumor biomarker levels, and detailed ultrasound reports of patients were collected. The area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, and specificity of the bellow-mentioned predictors were analyzed using the receiver operating characteristic curve. Of the 719 patie...

sen K Abstract Introduction: The aim of the present study was to investigate the prognostic impact of intratumoral cytotoxic T cells, Natural Killer (NK) cells, neutrophils and PD-L1 expression in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer. Methods: All patients diagnosed with high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) in Denmark in 2005 were included in the study. Immunohistochemical staining for PD-L1, CD8, CD66b and CD57 was performed on tumor tissue from 283 patients. Cell densities were analyzed using a digital image analysis method. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS).Results: The median OS for HGSC patients ...

We present a case of 50-year-old postmenopausal women who presented with coexisting incidental Brenner tumor with leiomyoma and Endometrial adenocarcinoma. Only few authors have reported similar tumor occurrence in the past.

CONCLUSIONS: Epithelial borderline ovarian tumors often co-exist with carcinoma and occur more frequently in postmenopausal women, in women with elevated CA-125, and in tumors with nonserous histology. The presence of any of these factors should alert clinicians to the potential need for comprehensive staging at the time of surgery. The recurrence of borderline tumors is associated with nonwhite race, concurrent carcinoma, and residual disease at initial surgery. PMID: 31796975 [PubMed - in process]

Whasun Lim In human epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), various miRNAs can function as either oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes. We investigated miRNAs known to be involved in EOC progression and analyzed their expression in tissues and serum-derived exosomes from benign serous cystadenoma, borderline serous tumor, low-grade serous ovarian cancer, and high-grade serous ovarian cancer patients (HGSO). The HGSO group was divided based on the platinum-free interval, which is defined as the duration from the completion of platinum-based chemotherapy to recurrence. We also analyzed the mRNA levels of target genes that can...

Authors: Wang Z, Tao X, Ying C Abstract Aim: To evaluate the diagnosis value of serum human epididymis protein 4 (HE4), cancer antigen 125 (CA125), the Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm (ROMA), and Copenhagen Index (CPH-I) at early stages for differentiating borderline ovarian tumors from epithelial ovarian cancer. Methods: We recruited 144 borderline ovarian tumors in FIGO stages I and II (BOT I+II), 108 epithelial ovarian cancers in FIGO stages I and II (EOC I+II), and 238 benign ovarian tumor patients with surgical treatment in the retrospective study. The concentration of HE4 and CA125 and the values of ...

ConclusionThese results are largely incompatible with a tumor-suppressive function of LATS in ovarian cancer, and LATS protein level is also not an indicator for drug sensitivity and EMT status of ovarian cancer cells.

This study aimed to elucidate impact of age on the clinicopathologic characteristics and survival of epithelial ovarian neoplasms in the reproductive age.MethodsThe clinical records of patients diagnosed as epithelial ovarian cancer or epithelial borderline ovarian tumor at the age of 40  years or younger at multiple institutions in the Tokai Ovarian Tumor Study Group were reviewed retrospectively. All patients were stratified into two age groups: group A (≤ 30 years) and group B (31–40 years). Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate overall survival and disease-free sur...

ConclusionsThis uniquely large and comprehensive meta-analysis confirms that although cigarette smoking does not appear to be a risk factor for ovarian cancer, and  it is even slightly protective for some rare histotypes, there is a strong dose–risk relationship with mucinous ovarian cancer.
