Are obese patients with heart failure very different from non-obese patients?
Obesity or overweight status has become increasingly prevalent and when defined by body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m2, 39.6% of all adults in the United States qualify as obese1. This is an urgent issue to address, as obesity clearly has many negative effects on patients’ health and the healthcare economy, including, in the cardiovascular system, hypertension, left ventricular hypertrophy, and sleep a pnea.
