Protective potentials of Annona muricata fruit pulp on etoposide-induced gastrointestinal toxicity in Wistar rats.

Protective potentials of Annona muricata fruit pulp on etoposide-induced gastrointestinal toxicity in Wistar rats. J Carcinog. 2019;18:4 Authors: Nayak S, Rao GM, Marathe A, Vyshnavi M Abstract BACKGROUND: Mucositis, one of the devastating consequences of chemotherapy and also limits the efficacy of the treatment. At present, there are no antimucositic agents without side effects. Hence, there is a need for better adjuvant therapy using plant or food sources. Here, we have made an attempt to study the effect of Annona muricata (AM) fruit pulp on etoposide-induced mucositis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was conducted at Central Research Laboratory, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. The effect of AM fruit pulp (100 mg and 200 mg/kg body weight) on etoposide-induced mucositis was studied in Wistar rats (n = 36) in comparison with normal and AM controls. Intestinal tissue was collected for histology and estimation of total antioxidants (TAO), glutathione (GSH), myeloperoxidase (MPO), and nitric oxide (NO) levels along with histological changes were studied. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way analysis of variance. RESULTS: TAO and GSH levels were found to be significantly high in the rats which received 200 mg of AM/kg body weight than 100 mg of AM/kg body weight when compared with etoposide control. The levels of inflammatory markers - MPO and NO - were found to be decreased (P

ConclusionsA majority of IBC patients in our study presented with node-positive disease, and for those presenting with cN2-3 disease, more extensive axillary surgery is potentially associated with improved survival. For cN0 patients, however, more extensive axillary surgery was not associated with a survival benefit, suggesting an opportunity for more personalized care.

ConclusionsLong-term OS in Indian patients in non-metastatic GC with EOX chemotherapy and D2 lymphadenectomy is similar to previously published Western data. Younger Indian patients fare worse than their older counterparts and this needs further evaluation.

AbstractIntroductionWhile the current standard of care after maximal safe resection for glioblastoma (GBM) is concomitant radiation and chemotherapy, the ideal therapy for patients with poor performance status remains in question due to concerns about treatment tolerance. We sought to evaluate an alternative regimen, sequential radiation and chemotherapy, to assess its efficacy as a treatment option for poorly performing patients.MethodsWe performed a retrospective analysis using the 2015 National Cancer Database in which the survival of patients with a KPS  ≤ 70 who received sequential radiation and chemo...

This study has important implications for the future investigations of prevention of periprosthetic infection. The nomogram model identifies high-risk patients for whom attached prophylaxis measures are required. Future studies regarding reduction of incidence of periprosthetic infection should pay close attention to these high-risk patients.Level of evidenceIV, retrospective, cohort study.

With an alarming increase in the patient population suffering from diverse varieties of cancers, the global demographic data predicts sharp escalation in the number of cancer patients. This can be expected to reach 420 million cases by 2025. Among the diverse types of cancers, the most frequently diagnosed cancers are the breast, colorectal, prostate ...

Herein, we demonstrated the synthesis of porous gadolinium oxide nanosheets (Gd2O3 NSs) with a colloidal synthesis method. The porous Gd2O3 NSs exhibited a promising pH-responsive drug release behavior for cancer chemotherapy and can be used as an efficient contrast agent for magnetic resonance (MR) imaging.

Conclusions: Before 2017, mCRC patients in China did not receive the maximum benefits of precision medicine breakthroughs. Reduced treatment cycles and increased costs per cycle from first- to third-line suggested poor healthcare resource utilization. With earlier initiation and more treatment cycles, targeted biologics may better demonstrate their effectiveness among Chinese patients. Our findings reflected the urgent need to increase drug accessibility in China before 2017 and underscore that including innovative biologics into Chinese health insurance plans can reduce patients' economic burden and improve the management...

Authors: Batoo S, Bayraktar S, Al-Hattab E, Basu S, Okuno S, Glück S Abstract With the introduction of anthracycline-based regimens, 5-year survival rates have significantly improved in patients with early-stage breast cancer. With the addition of trastuzumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting the human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2), improvements in overall survival have been observed among patients with advanced HER2-positive disease. Subsequently, lapatinib, an orally bioavailable small molecule dual HER2- and EGFR/HER1-specific tyrosine kinase inhibitor, received Food and Drug Administration (FDA)...
