Authors: Lareyre F, Carlier M, Raffort J Abstract The presence of accessory renal artery is a frequent anatomic variation that can challenge abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair. Here, we show an image of an abdominal aortic aneurysm extended to multiple accessory renal arteries in a patient known for an end-stage renal failure. This case raises the questions of the criteria that should be taken in consideration for an optimal management of accessory renal artery during AAA repair. Authors: Bazarbashi N, Miller M Abstract INTRODUCTION: Icosapent Ethyl (IPE) is a highly purified (>96%) form of eicosapentanoic acid, a marine-derived omega-3 fatty acid known to reduce serum triglyceride levels. Experimental and human studies also support anti-atherosclerotic properties of IPE including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, endothelial and plaque stabilizing effects. In the Reduction of Cardiovascular Events with Icosapent Ethyl-Intervention Trial (REDUCE-IT)l),the addition of 4 grams IPE daily resulted in a 25% reduction in cardiovascular events beyond statins and other standard of care therapies. ...

This study evaluated the frequency in which a hip dislocation is first diagnosed by computed tomography (CT) scan. A retrospective review was conducted of orthopaedic trauma patients presenting with hip dislocation to a Level 1 trauma center over three years. We recorded whether the patient first received pelvic radiograph (PXR) or CT scan of the pelvis, if the patient underwent closed reduction of the hip prior to CT scan, and if repeat pelvis CT scan was done. Of 83 hip dislocations, 64 patients were sent to CT scanner dislocated; 19 patients first had PXR and underwent closed reduction of the hip prior to CT scan. By ob...

(NIH/National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke) A new study in Neuron offers clues to why autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is more common in boys than in girls. National Institutes of Health scientists found that a single amino acid change in the NLGN4 gene, which has been linked to autism symptoms, may drive this difference in some cases. The study was conducted at NIH's National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS).

AbstractBackgroundThe optimal mitral prosthesis in young patients is unclear. This systematic review and meta ‐analysis were performed to compare outcomes between bileaflet mechanical mitral valve replacement (mMVR) and bioprosthesis mitral valve replacement (bioMVR) for MVR patients aged less than 70 years.MethodsWe searched MEDLINE and EMBASE databases from inception to July 2018 for studies comparing surgical outcomes of mMVR vs bioMVR.ResultsThere were 14 observational studies with 20  219 patients (n = 14 658 mMVR and n = 5561 bioMVR). Patients receiving an mMVR were younger...
