David aortic valve-sparing reimplantation versus biological aortic root replacement: a retrospective analysis of 411 patients
This study aimed to compare short- and long-term results for patients undergoing either aortic valve-sparing reimplantation (David) procedure (AVr-D) or biological aortic root replacement (Bentall) procedure (ARr-B-bio) for aortic root pathology.MethodsWe compared outcomes for patients who underwent AVr-D (n = 261) or ARr-B-bio (n = 150) between 2000 and 2015 at our institution. The mean age of patients was 55 ± 13 years and 21.7% (n = 89) were female. ARr-B-bio patients were significantly older than AVr-D patients (58 ± 10 vs 53 ± 15 years,p

Publication date: Available online 12 November 2019Source: Biocatalysis and Agricultural BiotechnologyAuthor(s): Ganesan Narchonai, Chithirai Arutselvan, Felix LewisOscar, Nooruddin ThajuddinAbstractMicroalgae are rapidly gaining prominence as feedstock for biofuels and came in limelight as source of third generation liquid fuel. Selection of microalgae for biotechnological applications can be done only evaluating their occurrence and diversity in different habitats and environmental conditions. Microalgae dwell abundantly in rivers, lakes, tanks, ponds, other fresh and marine water environments or habitats. The diversity ...
Authors: Yoshida K, Miyamoto S, SMART-K Study Group Abstract With recent advances in medical treatments for carotid artery stenosis (CS), indications for carotid surgery should be more carefully considered for asymptomatic CS (ACS). Accurate stratification of ACS should be based on the risk of cerebral infarction, and subgroups of patients more likely to benefit from surgical treatment should be differentiated. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers a non-invasive, accurate modality for characterizing carotid plaque. Intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) seems the most promising feature of vulnerable plaque detectable by M...
Conclusions: More than half the study patients received ibrutinib therapy at a submaximal dose without evidence of increased frequency of toxicities or disease progression. The rate of ibrutinib discontinuation was lower in our cohort than has been reported in other settings. Submaximal ibrutinib dosing will have to be further systematically evaluated. ConclusionsThe bilateral rubral branches were differentially involved in the chronic capsular and pontine stroke, and the impairment severity of each rubral branch was dependent on lesion locations. The integrity of the rubral branches is related to motor impairment in both the chronic capsular and pontine stroke.
Conclusionscortical gamma synchrony related to auditory entrainment can be reliably measured in stroke patients. Gamma synchrony is strongly associated with the clinical outcome of stroke survivors undergoing rehabilitation.
Conclusions: With appropriate preoperative evaluation and careful surgical planning, a minimally invasive approach to reoperative aortic valve surgery can be performed in a safe and effective manner.
