We only are too familiar with the numbers; half of all teenagers meet the DSM criteria for at least 1 mental health disorder. Adverse childhood experiences affect more than 50 percent of children, putting them at risk for disability and premature death. By age 14, accidents, suicide, and homicide are the leading causes of death among our youth, holding fast to that ranking until the age of 35. Addiction almost always starts in adolescence and takes the lives of approximately 1 million adults in the United States annually.
