Liver-specific Bid silencing inhibits APAP-induced cell death in mice

In conclusion, the liver-specific silencing of Bid expression did not protect APAP-exposed mice from microcirculatory dysfunction, but markedly protected the liver from necrotic cell death and in consequence from sterile inflammation. The study contributes to the understanding of the molecular mechanism of the APAP-induced pathogenic pathway by strengthening the importance of Bid and Bid silencing associated effects.

We report a case of bilateral complete occlusion of the extracranial portions of the internal carotid arteries in a HIV+ve patient who presented with a syncopal episode due to intraventricular haemorrhage. Compensatory blood flow from the posterior cerebral circulation via the circle of Willis resulted in small telangiectatic vessels arising from the posterior cerebral circulation which probably accounted for this rare haemorrhagic complication of an occlusive arteriopathy. Conclusions: While the ophthalmic community has traditionally viewed glaucoma as the classic ocular anomaly of CMTC, this dataset advocates for the prompt investigation of posterior segment abnormalities as well. However, our understanding of CMTC's ocular anomalies is complicated by a lack of reporting and/or incomplete (or nonexistent) ophthalmic examinations, and we strongly encourage comprehensive ophthalmic examinations for all CMTC patients at the time of diagnosis, followed by appropriate screening and surveillance throughout life.
