You-Gui-Yin improved the reproductive dysfunction of male rats with chronic kidney disease via regulating the HIF1α-STAT5 pathway

ConclusionsYGY has obvious reversal effects on the abnormal symptoms of adenine-induced CKD and the abnormal symptoms of rats with hypothyroidism and male reproductive hypotension. Its mechanism is related to its ability to regulate the HIF1α-STAT5 pathway.Graphical abstract

Purpose of review Hypothyroidism is a highly prevalent endocrine disorder in the end-stage renal disease (ESRD) population, yet many cases may remain latent and undiagnosed. Recent findings Epidemiologic data show that there is a nearly five-fold higher prevalence of hypothyroidism in advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients vs. those without CKD. Given that the metabolism, degradation, and excretion of thyroid hormone and its metabolites, as well as the regulation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–thyroid axis may be altered in ESRD, certain considerations should be made when interpreting thyroid functi...

This study aimed to analyze the incidence of malnutrition in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) at stage III-IV accompanied by hypothyroidism and indicate the improvement in nutritional status and kidney disease of CKD patients after undergoing thyroid hormone replacement (THR) therapy as therapeutic models. The included 156 CKD patients in stage III-IV were divided into the CKD stage III group (CKD-III group) (n=80) and CKD stage IV group (CKD-IV group) (n=76), and the clinical indicators of all the patients were collected. Based on changes in thyroid function, the included patients were again divided into the fol...

llo Persico Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease worldwide and its incidence is definitely increasing. NAFLD is a metabolic disease with extensive multi-organ involvement, whose extra-hepatic manifestations include type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, obstructive sleep apnea, chronic kidney disease, osteoporosis, and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Recently, further evidence has given attention to pathological correlations not strictly related to metabolic disease, also incorporating in this broad spectrum of systemic involvement hypothyroidism, psoriasis,...

ConclusionAlthough the investigated co-morbidities are capable or inducing pathophysiological changes that are predisposing factors for tumor progression, none is an independent prognostic factor in patients with RCC.

Abstract In humans, increased red blood cell distribution width (RDW) values are associated with higher morbidity and mortality in a variety of pathological processes. The main objective of this study was to evaluate RDW in dogs with a diverse range of pathologies. Clinical data from 276 dogs were retrospectively evaluated. Significantly higher RDW values were found in dogs with primary immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (P

This study aimed to determine whether there were significant differences in these complications in patients with T2DM with and without hypothyroidism. METHODS: This was a retrospective, cross-sectional, case-control study from a single centre specialising in diabetes in South Africa. T2DM was defined by American Diabetes Association criteria. The cases were all patients treated for hypothyroidism and the controls were clinically and biochemically confirmed euthyroid, who were under follow up between 1 January and 1 July 2016. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) was defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of...

NAFLD is truly a systemic disease and is associated with a plethora of extra-hepatic manifestations or comorbidities. These are either related to secondary effects of associated obesity or from pathophysiological effects of insulin resistance in NAFLD. Three most common causes of increased morbidity and mortality a...

Authors: Chandra A Abstract Thyroid hormones are important for growth and maintenance of kidney functions. Hypothyroidism has significant health consequences. Subclinical hypothyroidism has been less well defined clinically. Prevalence among women increases with age especially those with thyroid antibodies. Subclinical hypothyroidism carries the risk of developing overt hypothyroidism, subsequent cardiovascular health risks and renal dysfunction. Continuous clinical monitoring is recommended to evaluate the therapeutic response and possible adverse effects of over treatment requiring dosage adjustment. The present ...

Authors: Li AA, Ahmed A, Kim D Abstract Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease and encompasses a spectrum of pathology from simple steatosis to inflammation and significant fibrosis that leads to cirrhosis. NAFLD and its comorbid conditions extend well beyond the liver. It is a multisystemic clinical disease entity with extrahepatic manifestations such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, hypothyroidism, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and psoriasis. Indeed, the most common causes of mortality in subjects with NAFLD are cardiovascular disease, f...

We present an uncommon clinical presentation of a 38-year-old Caucasian man with mild facial palsy on the left side, uvular deviation to the left with preserved gag reflex, tongue deviation to the left, lingual dysarthria, and xerosis by severe hypothyroidism. Blood tests on admission showed elevated serum creatinine of 151  μmol/L (glomerular filtration rate 47 ml/min/1.7 CKD-EPI [Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration equation]), increased creatinine phosphokinase activity (1243 U/L), markedly elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone (292.2 mIU/L), low free thyroxine level (1.1 pmol/...
