This study showed that the ILI outbreak might be caused by seasonal influenza A/H1N1 pdm09 spread from person to person. Poor living conditions and poor hygiene and sanitation practices were environmental factors that caused the outbreak. As the CBS system was unable to identify this epidemic, it needs to be improved. This study is a report of the prevalence of influenza infection in the population of children up to the age of 14 years and of the type of influenza virus involved during the 2017/18 epidemic season in Poland. Vaccinations are a cost-effective means of preventing disease. They may be recommended primarily for maternal benefit or for prevention of intrauterine fetal or early neonatal infection. Increasingly they are a recognized technique of providing protection through passive immunity to the newborn infant. The MBRRACE-UK 2014 report, covering 2009 –2012 during the H1N1 epidemic, demonstrated that one in eleven maternal mortalities were directly from influenza virus. More than half of these could have been prevented by the flu vaccine in pregnancy.

In this study, we exposed apically well-differentiated human NECs cultured at the ALI to the related flaviviruses ZIKV, JEV, WNV, and Usutu virus (USUV). We selected these viruses due to the recent increasing evidences of potential threat to humans (Cadar et al., 2017; Simonin et al., 2018).
