Patient-reported symptoms during and after direct acting antiviral therapies for chronic hepatitis C: The PROP UP Study

Patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection often report neuropsychiatric, somatic, and gastrointestinal symptoms including fatigue, sleep disturbance, musculoskeletal pain, depression, and abdominal pain [1 –3]. Patients may attribute these symptoms to HCV, a chronic viral infection associated with several extrahepatic disorders. Recent studies show that health-related quality of life and other patient-reported outcomes (PROs) improve during all-oral direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy and after pa tients achieve a sustained virological response (SVR) [4–6].
