893 Low-level laser therapy for the treatment of male and female-pattern hair loss: A review of literature

Pattern hair loss is a common diagnosis in clinical dermatology affecting a substantial number of patients, leading to severe psychological and social impact in both men and women. Whereas low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has been known to stimulate cellular activity, there is considerable skepticism from the dermatology community on its use to promote hair growth due to lack of controlled studies, limited understanding of mechanisms, and inadequately defined treatment parameters. For this reason, we sought to examined published clinical trials to clarify uncertainties and determine whether the breadth of evidence supports low-level laser therapy for pattern hair loss.
