The Great Mimicker

Pulmonary embolism often is thought of as a great mimicker, as it can masquerade as many other diseases. Once a computed tomography scan reveals a main pulmonary artery mass in a patient with chest pain and shortness of breath, most jump quickly to the potential diagnosis of pulmonary embolism. However, not all pulmonary artery masses are clot. Primary pulmonary sarcoma can and does mimic the mimicker. In this issue, Sanders and colleagues eloquently describe and document a case of primary pulmonary artery sarcoma with the diagnosis made at the time of surgery.
