Fostering the Developmental Science of Puberty: Tackling Deficits and Enhancing Dissemination

Clinicians and researchers focusing on adolescence are aware of the importance of puberty, a critical developmental process embedded within the second decade of life. Puberty is a universal phenomenon. It occurs in all humans as a prerequisite to reproductive maturation. Over the last four decades, research including puberty has advanced at a rapid pace. For example, expansion is evident in the fields of endocrinology and neuroscience and in the increase in longitudinal studies focusing on changes in the physical development or behavior changes of puberty.
