The Effects of Genetic 3-Mercaptopyruvate Sulfurtransferase Deficiency in Murine Traumatic-Hemorrhagic Shock

Conclusions: In summary, in a resuscitated murine model of traumatic-hemorrhagic shock, 3-MST deficiency had no physiologically relevant impact on hemodynamics and metabolism, which ultimately lead to unchanged mortality regardless of an additional blunt chest trauma.

We report a case of bilateral CSH in the posterior fossa successfully treated with a single-burr hole surgery. A 74-year-old man under anticoagulation and antiplatelet therapy developed headache and nausea during observation for an asymptomatic supratentorial CSH. Radiological examinations revealed appearance of bilateral CSH in the posterior fossa associated with hydrocephalus. Upon rapid deterioration of the patient ’s consciousness, an urgent treatment was required. A burr hole was made near the transverse-sigmoid junction on the left side to access the hematoma. No ventricular drainage was placed as his conscious...

Authors: Choi H, Park SY, Kim YB, In J, Yang HS, Lee JS, Kim S, Park S Abstract Background: The facilitator effects of steroids on neuromuscular transmission may cause resistance to neuromuscular blocking agents. Additionally, steroids may hinder sugammadex reversal of neuromuscular blockade, but these findings remain controversial. Therefore, we explored the effect of dexamethasone and hydrocortisone on rocuronium-induced neuromuscular blockade and their inhibitory effect on sugammadex. Methods: we explored the effects of steroids in vitro using a phrenic nerve-hemidiaphragm rat model. In the first phase, effe...

Authors: Black ND, Malhas L, Jin R, Bhatia A, Chan VWS, Chin KJ Abstract Background: Iliac crest bone graft (ICBG) harvesting is associated with significant perioperative pain and opioid consumption. Retrospective studies indicate the transversalis fascia plane (TFP) block can provide analgesia for anterior ICBG harvesting. We conducted a randomized controlled trial to establish the efficacy of the TFP block in this setting. Methods: Fifty patients undergoing wrist fusion surgery with anterior ICBG harvesting were randomized to receive a TFP block with either 20 mL of 0.5% ropivacaine or 5% dextrose. Patients a...

The objective of this review is to analyze the articles published to date related to the ESP block. We perform a search in the main databases and identify 368 articles. After a selection of the relevant articles, finally, the studies included in the review were 125. The ESP block is performed by depositing the local anesthetic in the fascial plane, deeper than ESM at the tip of the transverse process of the vertebra. Cases of its use have been described with satisfactory results in both acute pain and chronic pain. The applicability of the technique covers a large number of clinical scenarios. As described in the articles ...
