Adjuvant Chemotherapy Following Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy for Early Stage Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer Is Associated with Lower Overall Survival: A National Cancer Database Analysis
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States with an estimated 234,030 new cases and 154,050 deaths from this disease in 2018 [1]. Of new non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) diagnoses, an estimated 20% or less will be localized to the lung parenchyma without regional or distant metastases; however, this proportion may increase with the adoption of low-dose computed tomography screening for high-risk populations [2]. Standard of care treatment for early stage NSCLC includes lobectomy with mediastinal lymph node sampling; however, many patients may not be suitable candidates for surgical management due to prohibitive medical comorbidities.
