Dynamics of the Gut Microbiota in Children Receiving Selective or Total Gut Decontamination Treatment During Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a curative treatment option for patients with various life-threatening diseases such as high-risk hematological malignancies, acquired or inborn bone marrow failure syndromes, severe immune deficiencies, and hemoglobinopathies. Graft-versus-Host disease (GvHD) is a severe and frequent complication of HSCT, characterized by severe organ damage due the initiation of an immune response of donated tissue (the graft) towards host tissue. The exact pathophysiology of GvHD is not known.
