Dengue and forced displacement in Colombia: a temporal and spatial modelling for assessing occurrence pattern

Background: Diseases transmitted by Aedes aegypti pose new challenges to public health surveillance and preparedness, specially in developing countries. Colombia has geographical and climate conditions adequate for Ae. aegypti, and therefore potentially endemic for dengue, Zika, and chikungunya. Over the last four years, Colombia has had three epidemic waves of these diseases. Additionally, 10% of Colombian population has suffered forced displacement due to armed conflict. Forced displacement increases the burden of these diseases due to the entrance of susceptible populations into endemic areas.
