Phylogenetic analysis of glycoprotein (G) gene of rabies virus isolated from spotted deer, Delhi, 2016

Background: Rabies is a deadly viral zoonotic disease of public health importance and it is enzootic in India. Phylogenetic studies are significant to address the several biological characteristics of infections such as the association among the virus isolates, source, spread and movement patterns of the virus. The study was undertaken in context of an outbreak of rabies reported in spotted deer (Axis Axis) at National Zoological Park, New Delhi in 2016. The study aimed to find out the rabies virus strain by sequence and phylogenetic analysis of glycoprotein (G) gene of rabies virus isolated from spotted deer.
