Tc-99m MIBI parathyroid imaging: added value of early phase SPECT/CT and does it obviates the need for delayed imaging?

Conclusion: Adding SPECT/CT to DSPS significantly reduced equivocal results by either confirming or excluding the presence of adenoma based on its location, decreased false positive results due to underlying thyroid lesions and achieved definite diagnosis with no need for delayed images in 95% of cases. Addition of delayed phase may only be considered in patients with negative or equivocal results after early SPECT/CT.
