On the Nose: Disseminated Mucormycosis,, ✯✯✯
A 77-year-old man was undergoing treatment for secondary acute myeloid leukemia when he developed a rare and serious opportunistic infection. The patient was referred to the infectious diseases department for febrile neutropenia with dyspnea and cough. In fact, he had chronic profound pancytopenia due to his underlying hematologic malignancy. Two weeks earlier, he received his first course of azacitidine. The patient had been taking posaconazole for 1 month for prophylaxis of invasive fungal infections.
