Time and Perfusate Dependent Molecular Repair Response During Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion

The low suitable donor lung utilization rate (20%), is attributable to the onset of acute lung injury (ALI), secondary to lung procurement and cold static preservation (CSP). Ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) has demonstrated great potential in increasing utilization rate and potentially expanding the donor lung pool. However, the mechanisms underlying this empirical success require further elucidation. The aim was to assess the utility of using molecular markers for quantifying ALI and monitoring EVLP repair.
