What Barriers Face Students With Hearing Loss?

  The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University wants to know what you see as the significant barriers facing students who are deaf and hard of hearing, ages birth through high school. This is your opportunity to share your experiences. The Clerc Center is mandated by the 2008 Education of the Deaf Act “to establish and publish priorities for research, development, and demonstration through a process that allows for public input.” Now is the time for ASHA members to share their input! The center will use your responses to identify priorities for the Clerc Center Strategic Plan 2025. If you’re an audiologist, speech-language pathologist, educator, doctor, parent—or anyone involved in educational services for children who are deaf or hard of hearing—the center wants to know what you think and invites you to complete a brief online survey that asks: What significant barriers face deaf and hard of hearing students ages birth through high school? The center aims to collect a diverse range of perspectives on areas of need in the education of children who are deaf or hard of hearing across the United States. Respondents’ perspective will help determine what resources are needed to support children who are deaf and hard of hearing across the nation, their families, and you—the professionals who work with them.
