Baseline metabolic disturbances and the twenty-five year risk of incident cancer in a Mediterranean population: Methodological issues

We read with great interest the paper authored by Noto et  al. published in Nutrition, Metabolism& Cardiovascular Diseases in 2016 [1]. The authors aimed to assess the risk of incident cancer associated with obesity and metabolic disturbances in a Mediterranean population. They concluded that metabolic disturbances are predictive of cancer after a 25-year follow-up of a Mediterranean population following a traditional Mediterranean diet. Although this valuable study has been conducted, some methodological issues should be considered to avoid misinterpretations.
