Biochemical profiles of Indian donkey population located in six different agro-climatic zones

This study indicated that normal biochemical values of different indices for a particular population should not be used as such for disease prognosis, diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring of other donkey population belonging to other agro-climatic zone having different nutritional and managemental practices.

CONCLUSION: Metabolic health status and obesity were significantly associated with increased risk of POAG incidence. MUNO subjects but not MHO subjects showed a higher risk of POAG development than did MHNO subjects, suggesting that metabolic status is more important than obesity in POAG. Authors: Everatt R, Virvičiūtė D, Tamošiūnas A Abstract OBJECTIVES: Previous studies have observed notable unexplained geographic differences in incidence of kidney cancer in Europe. Lithuania is among the countries with the highest incidence and mortality. Our objective was to investigate the effect of different lifestyle, anthropometric and biological factors on the risk of kidney cancer in Lithuanian men. METHODS: This population-based cohort study included 6,849 men initially free from cancer. During the follow-up (1978-2008), 79 incident cases of kidney cancer were identified. Cox proportional h...

The objective of this study was to compare the effect of the dietary beer trub, alone or in combination with linseed, on meat quality, oxidative status and cholesterol content of rabbit. Eighty New Zealand White rabbits were divided at weaning (30 d) into four dietary groups: control (C) fed a standard diet, trub (T, 2% of lyophilized trub), linseed (L, 3% of extruded linseed), and trub-linseed in combination (TL, 2% of lyophilized trub and 3% of extruded linseed). At slaughtering (80 d) the oxidative parameters of blood and quality of Longissimus thoracis et lumborum were analysed. The in vivo lipid oxidation was similar ...

The objectives of this study were to evaluate analysis of HAs and COPs in raw, boiled and roasted chicken by QuEChERS coupled with UPLC-MS/MS and GC-MS, respectively, and study their formation as affected by different flavorings (red pepper, black pepper, rosemary, soy sauce) and roasting methods (fan oven and superheated steam oven). Results showed that the average recovery respectively ranged from 54.1–109.3% and 65.1–116.6% for 20 HAs and from 87.9–102.8% and 87.5–101.3% for 7 COPs in the skin and meat portions of boiled chicken breast, while the coefficient of variation (CV) of the intra-day and...

Almeida Isabel Weigand Matthias Kroiss Maria Claudia Nogueira Zerbini Maria Candida Barisson Villares Fragoso Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare endocrine malignancy with an unfavorable prognosis. Despite the poor prognosis in the majority of patients, no improvements in treatment strategies have been achieved. Therefore, the discovery of new prognostic biomarkers is of enormous interest. Sterol-O-acyl transferase 1 (SOAT1) is involved in cholesterol esterification and lipid droplet formation. Recently...

Authors: Bencheikh N, Bouhrim M, Kharchoufa L, Choukri M, Bnouham M, Elachouri M Abstract In Morocco, "Zizyphus lotus L." is one of the most widely and traditionally used plant species to treat various diseases, including liver disorders. The present study was conducted to evaluate the aqueous extract of Zizyphus lotus L. fruit against carbon tetrachloride- (CCL4-) induced liver damage in Wistar rats. The animals were daily treated with the aqueous extract of Zizyphus lotus L. fruit using two doses separately 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight for 14 days. CCL4 was injected intraperitoneally (1 m...

DavisAbstractLipid bilayers form the basis of cell membranes and the phase behaviour of the membrane has been linked to proper cell function. Model membranes composed of relatively simple mixtures of phospholipids and cholesterol can already exhibit complex phase behaviour. Specifically, liquid ordered–liquid disordered fluid phase coexistence occurs in mixtures which contain one saturated long chain phospholipid and one unsaturated long chain phospholipid and cholesterol...

The objective of this study was to investigate the association between the genetic variants of the ADIPOQ gene (+45T>G and +276G>T) with MetS among a relocated indigenous Temiar subtribe community in Malaysia. This cross-sectional study investigated 123 relocated Temiar volunteers in Kelantan. Modified NCEP ATP III criteria were used to diagnose MetS. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood and genotyped for ADIPOQ +45T>G and +276G>T polymorphisms using Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique. Associations between ADIPOQ +45T>G (rs2241766) and +276G>T (rs150...
