Sentinel lymph node detection in clinical stage I endometrial cancer by cervical and subserosal myometrial blue dye labeling

In this study 45 women diagnosed with stage I endometrial carcinoma were categorized into three groups: group I, group II, and group III. In group I, 15 patients were injected with 1% methylene blue into the subserosal myometrium at eight injection sites: the most superior portion of the anterior midline and posterior midline of the fundus, the anterior and posterior midpart of the uterus, the anterior and posterior lower part of the uterus, and lastly at both corneal ends. In group II, 15 patients were injected with 1% methylene blue into the cervicosubserosal myometrium at four injection sites: in 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions; and in group III, another 15 cases were injected with 1% methylene blue into both the subserosal and cervicosubserosal myometrium following the same technique as in groups I and II (12 sites). Four milliliters of methylene blue were injected into each site. Results and discussion: Seven cases were grade 1 endometrioid carcinoma, 22 cases were grade 2 endometrioid carcinoma, 11 cases were grade 3 endometrioid carcinoma, and five cases were papillary serous carcinoma. The demographic data showed the following: the mean age for grade 1 endometrioid carcinoma was 49.5±9.53 years, the mean age for grade 2 endometrioid carcinoma was 60.8±7.19 years, the mean age for grade 3 endometrioid carcinoma was 59±8.32 years, and the mean age for papillary serous carcinoma was 69.4±2.4 years, showing that higher grades of endometrioid carcinoma occurred at ...
