Dextroamphetamine Transdermal Patch: A Treatment Option for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a chronic neurodevelopmental disorder with impairments such as attention difficulty, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness often continuing from childhood into adulthood.1 Untreated ADHD may significantly interfere with functioning and development, including educational underachievement, unemployment, substance abuse, criminality, troubled relationships, and poor self-esteem.1,2 On August 1, 2023, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a statement addressing the continued prescription stimulant shortage, acknowledging the important role that these medications play in the treatment of ADHD.
