A Deep Dive into Opioid Antagonist Use for Opioid-Induced Respiratory Depression (OIRD)

1. Utilizing a case-based approach, participants will be able to 1) Describe the pathophysiology of opioid-induced respiratory depression (OIRD); 2) Differentiate the pharmacology and formulations of naloxone and nalmefene to mitigate OIRD in the hospice and2. 3) Discuss the use of naloxone and risks in polysubstance overdoses; 4) Identify patients who may or may not benefit from naloxone or nalmefene depending on concurrent antagonists which may prevent or modulate OIRD; 5) Recommend opportunities to optimize.
