The impact of local programmatic decisions on outcomes in transplant-listed adults with congenital heart disease

Heart failure is the leading cause of death for adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD), complicated by unclear efficacy of guideline-directed medical therapy in this population1 –3 and a lack of consensus on appropriate timing for orthotopic heart transplant (OHT) referral.4 Once referred for transplant, the path remains unclear for these patients, as it has been previously shown that ACHD heart transplant candidates experienced longer wait times and higher waitlist morta lity than non-ACHD candidates.
