Right Single Lung Transplantation After Left Pneumonectomy

Introduction: Single lung transplantation (SLTX) following a remote contralateral pneumonectomy (PN) is a rare, yet life-saving procedure that requires strategic surgical planning because of mediastinal shifts, enlarged pleural cavity and anatomical changes in the bronchovascular structures.Case Report: A 34-year-old man with non-cystic fibrosis (CF) bronchiectasis underwent left PN 15 years prior to undergoing right SLTX. Prior to transplantation, he was hospitalized numerous times with respiratory failure and consequently developed infections with multi-drug resistant Pseudomonas and Achromobacter.
