HeartWare ™ HVAD Support Without Anticoagulation
Introduction: Ventricular assist devices (VAD) are increasingly utilized in pediatric patients as bridge to heart transplant (HTx). In the setting of concomitant disease processes such as cancer, it can be challenging to balance anticoagulation in these patients. Here, we report a pediatric case of anthracycline-induced cardiomyopathy requiring HeartWare ™ Left Ventricular Assist Device (HVAD) who was managed without thrombotic or thromboembolic complications while off anticoagulant/antiplatelet agents for over one hundred days.
