Brain 18  F-FDG PET reveals cortico-subcortical hypermetabolic dysfunction in juvenile neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus

Conclusionsj-NPSLE patients showed a robust bilateral cortico-subcortical hypermetabolic network, focused subcortically, particularly in thalamus, proportionally to psychiatric features severity. Further studies with larger, but homogeneous, cohorts are needed to determine the sensitivity and specificity of this dysfunctional pattern as a potential biomarker in diffuse inflammatory j-NPSLE with normal brain MRI.
