Pregnancy-related outcomes in obstetric patients with pulmonary hypertension: a single-center retrospective cohort study
The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies pulmonary hypertension (PH) among the highest risk cardiovascular conditions complicating pregnancy. Pregnancy-related mortality among patients with PH ranges from 4% to 56%.1 –4 Mortality within one year of delivery may be higher in patients with severe PH compared with mild PH (21% vs. 9%).1,5 Obstetricians are advised to counsel patients with PH against pregnancy or recommend termination of pregnancy due to this high risk of mortality.6 However, PH severity is not a factor considered in these recommendations.
