“AI for the new GI”: What role does artificial intelligence have in early colonoscopy training?

Endoscopists have long anticipated the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) into endoscopy, and we are now in an age of its introduction and rapid evolution. Several  commercial systems are already using colonoscopy polyp detection (CADe), polyp diagnosis/characterization (CADx), and quality measures (withdrawal speedometer). Research in the field is expanding, with 86 studies currently registered in the most recognized clinical trials database (clinicaltrials. gov). The improvement in both adenoma detection rate (ADR) and adenoma per colonoscopy (APC) rates by expert and nonexpert colonoscopists has been robustly demonstrated across several randomized trials.
