Branched-chain amino acids and diet

Rationale: Higher levels of branched chain amino acids (BCAA, isoleucine, leucine, and valine) increase the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Diet is the only source of BCAAs, but previous studies have shown conflicting data on the influence of diet on human plasma BCAA concentration. Hence, we evaluated the association between BCAA concentration and diet in a large sample from Switzerland.
