Nutritional factors in adolescence are associated with cardiovascular risk factor in young adulthood. A longitudinal observational study

Rationale: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality worldwide and originate in the first decades of life. A better understanding of their early determinants would allow for better prevention. The impact of processed food consumption and diet quality on adult cardiovascular health are well documented but have never been assessed during adolescence. Our objective was to evaluate the impact of processed food consumption and diet quality during adolescence on adult cardiovascular status, using the PDAY (Pathobiological Determinants of Atherosclerosis in Youth) risk score.
