Obesity is a chronic metabolic condition associated with many cardiovascular risk factors. While bariatric surgery is the most effective treatment for weight loss, its most significant impact is on weight-related comorbidities, including heart disease. Cardiac disease is currently the leading cause of death among adults worldwide and incurs enormous cost on our healthcare system. Numerous well-controlled studies show a decreased risk of many cardiovascular disorders after bariatric surgery including dysrhythmia, coronary artery disease, and heart failure.
