Commentary: In strive to get rid of chronic venous hypertension; staged ventricular septation in double inlet ventricles

Fifty years have passed since the first Fontan operation was performed.1 This univentricular palliation has saved many lives with anatomically single ventricle. The pathophysiology will inevitably create chronic venous hypertension. This elevated venous pressure will lead to end organ damage such as liver, kidney, lung, bowels, and other humoral systems. Ample evidence is available that such pathophysiology would lead to higher risk heart transplantation due to end organ damage or the need for multiple organ transplantation.
