A new risk score for the assessment of outcomes for Chinese patients with peripartum cardiomyopathy

Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a rare form of idiopathic dilated heart failure that develops towards the end of pregnancy or in the months following delivery,1-3 with severe maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality.4,5 The incidence of PPCM differs widely between geographic regions and ethnic groups, with hotspots in Nigeria.6-10 Based on a recent national inpatient database from the United States, the estimated incidence of PPCM is 1 in 1000 births.11 Risk factors that have been associated with PPCM include older age, multiple pregnancies, and preeclampsia.
