Kinetics of omega-3 fatty acid transfer to milk differs between fatty acids and stage of lactation in dairy cows.
Tissues differ greatly in their FA profile indicating tissue specific uptake and metabolism [1]. This is especially evident with omega-3 (n-3) polyunsaturated FA (PUFA) as they are greatly enriched in some tissues, such as the brain [1]. However, kinetics of n-3 PUFA interorgan trafficking is complex and has not been well studied but may provide unique insight into the metabolism of these essential nutrients.
