Light at the End of the Tunnel – Michelle ’ s Story

I am 42 and here is my story. I have had endometriosis for years. Two years ago I started to get a dull pain in my right side which was on and off and then became constant. I was referred to a gynaecologist who diagnosed a fibroid and also endometriosis and some cysts on my right ovary, I also had some adhesions from having previous laproscopies. The cysts were removed and adhesions and endometriosis treated. My pain was gone alas it was short lived as a month later it came back. My gynaecologist tried several different contraceptive pills which didnt work as I had high blood pressure, the mirena coil was unable to be fitted. I had 7 months of zoladex to stop my ovaries working which did seem to help but was only a short term solution. During all this I kept asking about possibility of having a hysterectomy but my consultant was reluctant due to my age and the fact I hadnt had children. Finally on 10th August I had a subtotal hysterectomy with removal of both my ovaries via keyhole surgery. I feel now I am finally getting my life back. I have not had any pain since. My recovery has been very good. The first few weeks consisted of light diet, plenty of fluids, peppermint tea and rest. I then started taking short walks building it up gradually. I still feel tired at times during the day but when I do I rest. Because of my blood pressure I am taking natural supplements for the menopause symptoms.
