Anticancer pan-ErbB inhibitors reduce inflammation and tissue injury and exert broad-spectrum antiviral effects
Targeting host factors exploited by multiple viruses could offer broad-spectrum solutions for pandemic preparedness. Seventeen candidates targeting diverse functions emerged in a screen of 4,413 compounds for SARS-CoV-2 inhibitors. We demonstrated that lapatinib and other approved inhibitors of the ErbB family of receptor tyrosine kinases suppress replication of SARS-CoV-2, Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV), and other emerging viruses with a high barrier to resistance. Lapatinib suppressed SARS-CoV-2 entry and later stages of the viral life cycle and showed synergistic effect with the direct-acting antiviral nirm...

Navigating Mental Health Services: Perspectives of Latinx Immigrant Caregivers
AbstractThe Latinx population has continuously experienced a government and public opinion focused on reducing immigration. The COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbated the situation by significantly slowing immigration to the United States and global travel. This research aims to assess the progress made in human services to address the barriers to mental health treatment encountered by newly arrived Latinx immigrant families from non-traditional Latinx subgroups. Specifically this study assesses the barriers faced by Colombians, Venezuelans, and Argentinians, among others, when seeking or utilizing mental health services fo...

Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 2022: Severe Neurologic Disease in a Horse Caused by Tick-Borne Encephalitis Virus, Austria, 2021
In this study, ELISA and neutralization tests were applied to serum samples. Brain tissue samples were investigated for the presence of nucleic acids of TBEV, Equid alphaherpesvirus 1, Borna disease virus 1, West Nile and Usutu viruses, rustrela virus, as well as Eastern, Western, and Venezuelan equine encephalitis viruses with RT-qPCR, RT-PCR, and qPCR, respectively. TBEV-specific amplification products were subjected to Sanger sequencing. In addition, a direct fluorescent antibody test for rabies was performed. Clinical and patho-histological findings are reported. Using specific RT-qPCR and RT-PCR assays, T...
