US guided aspiration?
My radiology frienemies are apprehensive about US guided biopsies and nearly always successfully convince patients to forego an ultrasound guided biopsy on their breast, lymph node, thyroid, neck lump, etc. I believe they would give up that service altogether if they could pass it on to someone else. I have a very low level of interest in pursuing this. In training, I did dozens and dozens of needle aspirations of anything palpable, but never with the benefit of ultrasound guidance. I'm... Best ultrasound machine
Our ED admin recently asked us for a “wishlist” of equipment to purchase. We have an aging portable SonoSite currently as our machine. If you could pick a machine, which would you choose? (If you are really in the know, midrange and luxury model options would be great) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How would you choose between these 2 jobs?
Hello, I'm a current pain fellow at an east coast program. I'm still looking for jobs and it's definitely been a bit of a challenge in the market. I have 2 offers that I'm considering, they're both 100% pain private practice. The first offer is east coast, joining a group of 2 other docs, in a practice that has been around for about 10 years. They have in-office c-arm, ultrasound, and access to an ASC. They do bread and butter pain as well as some SCS, DRG, and regen medicine like PRP and... How would you choose between these 2 jobs? Regional anesthesia as a 4th year medical student
Yesterday, my attending taught me how to do an adductor canal block with ultrasound for postop pain management in total knee replacements and I ended up doing five myself throughout the day while he watched. Is this common? Anyone else have similar experiences? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anyone used BK ultrasounds?
Are they really superior to GE and Sonosite? I looked at sonosite Sii and wasn’t all that impressed with image quality. I used GE through residency and was happy with the image produced. The BK rep says theirs is the industry standard and had heard they were excellent (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dear future DO physicians
A couple of days ago I suffered from a spontaneous pneumothorax, and was misdiagnosed by my doctor. It wasn't until the DO resident ordered an ultrasound (the attending didnt!!) that she saved my life. I have made disparaging remarks questioning the capabilities of DO and I want to formally apologize. My comments were ignorant and unjustified. False narratives perpetuated by the internet and peers have reinforced these false beliefs. As your future colleague and partner, I am very sorry. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Butterfly iQ ultrasound?
It seems like a lot of the old ultrasound equipment threads started here so I figured I'd ask if anyone here is on the waiting list for the Butterfly? The website description of their probe states that since they're using a semi-conductor instead of a piezoelectric crystals you'd only need a single probe for any of the frequencies commonly in use. It looks like they opted for the form factor of a linear probe and the videos they show on the website look like they generate a pretty high... Butterfly iQ ultrasound? Ultrasound guided peripheral IVs
Even when done with a long catheter, a lot of times they eventually infiltrate after getting a good blood draw from it and easy IV fluid flow initially. Why does this happen? It grinds my gears. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Class of 2020
How is everyone doing so far? We just finished up our first biochem exam this past week and had our white coat ceremony directly afterwards. Classes are really starting to ramp up and I'm constantly amazed at the sheer volume of material that we have to know. We also did our first ultrasound lab this week and have easy access to the lab to get some more time with the machines--nice to learn some actual skills with all the pre-clinical stuff. It's already starting to feel like fall in... Class of 2020 (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Sterility of aline placement
I did an sdn search, but didn't find a good thread for my question... I've seen a wide spectrum for sterile technique for aline placement, from simple alcohol swab to full blown sterile technique. 1- for the times you're using ultrasound, what is you're sterile technique? Sterile sleeve probe cover? No probe cover at all, perhaps a quick wipe of the probe plus sterile gel? Etc 2- for non-ultrasound alines? I'm sure they're going to be a lot of different styles, but are all of you... Sterility of aline placement (Source: Student Doctor Network)

C section for breech...timing of confirmation of breech?
Hi, I'm an anesthesiologist in Canada...I had a patient booked for primary section for breech. Their last ultrasound was 2 weeks ago. The surgeon palpated the fetuses position, and although they didn't seem 100% sure, felt the baby was still breech..(he wasn't, which was evident during the c section) This made me wonder: Are there any clear guidelines about confirmation of breech position prior to C section for breech? eg. should an ultrasound have been done day of? or is palpation...
