Top Sports Medicine Fellowships for US Training
Hello all! I know this has been asked before, but as we all know programs change over time. At this point, what are the top sports medicine fellowships that offer high level diagnostic and interventional ultrasound training? Which programs offer a formalized ultrasound curriculum with eventual progression to advanced procedures and performing complete diagnostic scans? Thank you for your time and input! Help! Need new procedure room jokes
Nurses are complaining about hearing the same material. Please help me out with some of your favorites. Some of my faves: - when performing any ultrasound procedure, knee, stellate, etc. saying, "Now I won't be able to tell you if its a boy or a girl..." - when patient says they are nervous saying, "don't worry, I just watched a YouTube video on how to do this." - when patient says they are afraid of needles say, "me too! I can't even stand to look at them, thats why I keep my eyes closed... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Survey on use of nerve stimulators in regional anesthesia
inspired by a long thoughtful conversation with a PACU nurse I had this week about changing patterns in regional anesthesia, I'm wondering about practice patterns with nerve stimulators these days for blocks done under ultrasound guidance. Specifically things like an interscalene block or popliteal block where it could be done either with pure ultrasound or pure nerve stimulator technique or a combination of both. Obviously I assume nobody is using a nerve stimulator for something like a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does your OMS I and II curriculum involve Step 2/Level 2 material?
Hello everyone! Current OMS II here. I’ve noticed that our school has a lot of clinical oriented lectures during OMS I and II. And often times on our exams we are expected to know very clinical material (e.g. indications for pelvic ultrasound vs MRI, managing adrenal disorders with medications vs surgery, cancer staging, etc). Little to none of this has shown up on the Step 1 question banks I have been working with (admittedly I haven’t started UWORLD yet, but going to next week). And... Reimbursement for ultrasound-guided procedures in a private practice group?
I've had an position offered to me to function purely as a proceduralist performing ultrasound-guided injections. The procedure referrals would come from a large internal referral system in a physician-owned private practice. I'm looking for information from others on what this type of set-up could look like from an insurance reimbursement/financial standpoint? Where/how is the best way to determine this if I know the type and total number of procedures I would be doing? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ultrasound in Curriculum
Hey all, trying to get a gauge for how US is used in your curriculum. In particular do you have a POCUS or similar US interest group? What sort of US devices have you been exposed to, etc... (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pain Is A Great EM Subspecialty That You Should Think About
Doing an Interventional Pain fellowship is something that's open to EM residents and physicians, just as much as it is to Anesthesiologist and Physiatrists. You should look into it. It's a whole different world, and a whole different life. Sleeping at night, and being awake during the day. Spine epidurals, joint injections, nerve blocks, nerve ablations, using fluoro/ultrasound, joint injections, placing spinal cord stimulators. Cool procedures. I have a 2 level kyphoplasty on a cancer... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Video Laryngoscopy 100% of the time … every time.
If you have a decked out 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid in your driveway… why drive the 1989 Honda Civic? Once upon a time the only way to place a central line was by doing it “blind” aka using landmarks. Today, not using an ultrasound is considered to be below the standard of care (unless it’s an emergency). How many of you have similarly evolved your practice to using a video laryngoscope 100% of the time (McGrath)? - optimizes first attempt success (therefore you’re reliably faster, fewer... Shoulder Reduction Advice
So I'm on a real dry spell here. The last three shoulders I've had had significant issues and I haven't been able to get them in, had to ask for help from a colleague, and today had to call ortho. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here... I've had some decent success with ultrasound guided intra-articular lidocaine injection and a touch of versed in the past. Butoday I literally could not get this shoulder to budge. Today the patient refused a joint injection, so I sedated them with almost... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Probably going to fail a course, feeling pretty down (MS1, first semester)
Hi everyone, I'm an MS1 in my first semester at a mid/low tier US MD school (flagship state school, top ~70-85 rank). I narrowly passed our first block (biochem) and I'm now about 2/3 of the way through our second block, which is one course consisting of gross anatomy, histology and ultrasound. The passing score is 75.0 and I currently have around a 77 average, but in order to pass this particular class you need a 75.0 or higher in each of the three components (gross, histo and... BOSTON: Great Pain Radiation Technician/MA moving to Boston in August; any job contacts for her?
Hi All, One of my very best employees of 8 years duration is moving to Boston, Charlestown. She has a natural talent running a c-arm for pain fluoro procedures and setting up ultrasound, pain trays, etc. Was a former social worker and can handle all the psych pathology we encounter no problem. I'm trying to help her find a job in Boston as she's been such a blessing to me I want to help her out. I have not had a single negative issue with her during her employment under me. Does anybody...
