Effects of prepartum oilseed supplements on subclinical endometritis, pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokine transcripts in endometrial cells and postpartum ovarian function in dairy cows.
Abstract Postpartum uterine infections affect ovarian function and delay ovulation in cattle. As dietary fats can affect immune cell function, we investigated the influence of prepartum diets on postpartum uterine inflammatory status (UIS) as assessed 25 ± 1 days postpartum by endometrial cytology (normal: ≤8% polymorphonuclear cells (PMN) vs subclinical endometritis (SCE): >8% PMN) and associations between SCE, pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokine gene expression and ovarian function. During the last 5 weeks of gestation, dairy cows received a diet supplemented with 8% rolled sunflower (n = 10) or ca...

[Emergency department consultations due to foreign body ingestion].
DISCUSSION: Ingestion of fish bones or coins by young children is a relatively common presentation in the PED, and it is associated with frequent medical interventions. Although the overall prognosis is good, and improving the health education of the population should be considered to reduce the frequency of these episodes. Vegetable oil‐mediated thermal isomerization of (all‐E)‐lycopene: facile and efficient production of Z‐isomers
This study has developed an efficient production method for Z‐isomers of lycopene by heating (all‐E)‐lycopene in edible vegetable oils, in which neither organic solvents nor food additives are used. It would be practically feasible to utilize this procedure for the food, drink, and dietary supplement manufacturing, as well as for daily cooking at home. Determination and evaluation of element bioaccessibility in some nuts and seeds by in-vitro gastro-intestinal method
Publication date: February 2016 Source:Journal of Food Composition and Analysis, Volume 45 Author(s): Burcu Kafaoglu, Andrew Fisher, Steve Hill, Derya Kara Element bioaccessibility in some nuts and seeds has been determined by performing a physiologically based extraction test. Nine elements (B, Ca, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mg, Ni and Zn) in gastric and intestinal phase extractions of nuts and seeds were determined using inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. Hazelnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, peanuts, cashew nuts, Brazil nuts, walnuts, chickpeas, pump...

Bioreactors for lignocellulose conversion into fermentable sugars for production of high added value products.
Abstract Lignocellulosic biomasses derived from dedicated crops and agro-industrial residual materials are promising renewable resources for the production of fuels and other added value bioproducts. Due to the tolerance to a wide range of environments, the dedicated crops can be cultivated on marginal lands, avoiding conflict with food production and having beneficial effects on the environment. Besides, the agro-industrial residual materials represent an abundant, available, and cheap source of bioproducts that completely cut out the economical and environmental issues related to the cultivation of energ...
