Upcoming DAT - Type 1 Diabetic
I hope everyone is doing great! As I prep for the DAT, I've been looking into the 'processes' involved for me taking the exam as a type 1 diabetic and what I need to do to make sure all is okay with items such as insulin pump/having a juice for potential low blood sugar, etc. I know they have to be pretty tight on rules (no phones etc.) but I just want to make sure all would be okay if for instance my insulin pump was alerting me on an upcoming low blood sugar and I had to click the button... Hyperglycemia In PACU
How are people managing hyperglycemia in PACU. A lot (Obviously not all) of the attendings I work with are very hesitant to give insulin to patients that are hyperglycemic post-op and usually either just discharge them and tell them to resume home medications for outpatients or just let primary team manage it once the patient leaves PACU and gets to the floor. Just wondering how people at other institutions are approaching this: insulin-naive/not naive, blood sugar cut-offs, treatment... Hyperglycemia In PACU (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Are volunteers ethically allowed to do this?
I volunteer at a free medical clinic for low income and uninsured individuals. My position is in the back office, where we call patients in from the waiting room to interview them and record basic vitals in their chart before they see the doctor. I ask the patient's birthdate to confirm, then take height, weight, blood pressure (automatic), temperature, and record respiratory rate. On rarer occasions I do finger pricks to test blood sugar for diabetic patients, or ask female OBGYN patients a... Are volunteers ethically allowed to do this? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Kitties who like sweet treats
As Thanksgiving approaches and I begin gearing up for the holidays, my mind returned to a question I've had for years. I've always been told that cats can't taste sweetness, and so don't like candy or other sweet treats. However, I've had a few cats who enjoyed sweets, including one with a particular fondness for the sugar cookies I usually make around Christmas time. He also enjoyed chocolate cake which he's no longer allowed to have once I learned that chocolate is... Kitties who like sweet treats (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How should I move forward...? Requesting some insight.
Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well. (Hopefully I've posted this in the right section). Where to begin? Well I suppose it would be prudent to start at the beginning of relevant education. I started my undergraduate in 2012 and finished my degree (a BA in Psychology) back in 2015 with a 2.5 total GPA. I won't sugar-coat it -- I did rather horribly due to some life-changing issues which lead to a decline in my mental well-being, to put it most simply. I was initially a biochemistry... Crisis!!!!! haaaalllpppp!!!!
Hey guys, Sugar Plum here, I need your advice; and before you comment on my title hear me out lol. So I am graduating in may, with a degree that has basically nothing to do with pre-medical/medical schools, well not as much. Anyways, I go to a university which has 4 campuses, and 1 of them is very close to my home. I had spoken to a dean a while back who told me that since I commute for over 2 hours per day, and the fact that I have so much going on, my chances of med school are so low... CRISIS!!!!!
