When the school day starts later, teens get better sleep and feel more motivated

It’s possible, perhaps even likely, that students from other backgrounds or countries will experience different costs and benefits when taking advantage of late starts. As appealing as later school starts may sound, their practicality and effects on students within the UK system requires further investigation. Apologies to younger readers! – Sleep improvements on days with later school starts persist after 1 year in a flexible start system Post wr...

From “Eminence-based” to Evidence-based mental healthcare: Time to focus on quality and accountability
For the mental health crisis of care, quality is as much of a problem as quantity. Most people who seek mental health care for the first time are baffled by how to find a clinician. I know what many parents felt. When my daughter, Lara, finished her first semester at Oberlin, she returned home to Atlanta thin and exhausted. In fact, as I learned later, she had been driven by obsessions about her weight and her appearance for over a year by that point. As was true of Amy, her perfectionism and her shame at not being perfect...

Due to fear of legalRead more …A case for legalizing marijuana and ecstasy originally appeared inKevinMD.com. (Source: Kevin, M.D. - Medical Weblog)

What Can Alleviate the Plight of Rural Pharmacies?
The health problems of rural areas are alarming and increasing: consider the loss of clinicians, populations increasingly dominated by older people with chronic conditions, a high incidence of substance abuse, depression caused by isolation, and more.
