Intravenous antibiotic therapy after laparoscopic appendectomy in acute complicated appendicitis: the patient clinical response is the key
CONCLUSION: 48 patients with ACA intraoperative findings were included. Regarding postoperative antibiotic management, only preoperative IVA: 7 (14.58%), IVA 1-3 days: 1 (20.83%), IVA 1-3 days and change to OA: 21 (43.75%), IVA > 3 days: 6 (12.5%), and only OA: 3 (27.08%). The bivariate analysis did not show statistically significant differences in reconsultation (p = 0.81), rehospitalization (p = 0.44), and surgical site infection (p = 0.56) between the antibiotic scheme based on the postoperative clinical response and the traditional one regarding intra-abdominal collection rate, the hospital stays, and hospitalizatio...

Peritoneal sarcoidosis that simulates peritoneal carcinomatosis: a case report
Cir Cir. 2023;91(4):567-570. doi: 10.24875/CIRU.21000715.ABSTRACTSarcoidosis is a multisystem inflammatory disorder of unknown cause characterized by the formation of pleomorphic, non-caseating granulomas with predominantly pulmonary involvement. Although abdominal sarcoidosis represents 30% of extrapulmonary manifestations, peritoneal involvement is extremely rare. We will describe a rare case of peritoneal sarcoidosis simulating carcinomatosis in a young patient with abdominal pain who underwent laparoscopic examination.PMID:37677938 | DOI:10.24875/CIRU.21000715

No evidence for fixation of mesh in laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) inguinal hernia repair: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionThe current evidence is very uncertain and mesh fixation may have little to no effect regarding hernia recurrence and chronic postoperative inguinal pain in patients operated with TAPP inguinal hernia repair.

The efficacy of robotic-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty for pediatric ureteropelvic junction obstruction: a systematic review and meta-analysis
This study was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023415667). 26 studies with 6074 cases performing pyeloplasty were included, and the overall data are comparable. Our analysis showed no significant difference in success rate and postoperative complications between RALP and OP, and RALP is associated with a shorter length of stay (LOS) (MD − 1.00 95%CI − 1.45 to − 0.55,p <  0.0001). In addition, compared to LP, RALP was associated with a shorter anastomosis time (MD − 18.35 95%CI − 29.88 to − 6.82,p = 0.002) and fewer postoperative analgesics (MD − 0.09 95% CI − 0.18 to − 0.01,p = 0.03); howeve...

Recurrent steroid cell tumor not otherwise specified with elevated testosterone and prolactin concentrations and impaired glucose metabolism: a case report
J Int Med Res. 2023 Sep;51(9):3000605231194509. doi: 10.1177/03000605231194509.ABSTRACTSteroid cell tumor not otherwise specified (SCT-NOS) is a rare type of sex cord-stromal tumor with malignant potential. A 19-year-old woman underwent laparoscopic bilateral cystectomy, and postoperative pathology showed bilateral ovarian SCT-NOS. She had recurrence of the right tumor 8 years after the surgery, with shortened menstrual cycles, elevated testosterone and prolactin concentrations, and impaired glucose metabolism. We performed a laparoscopic right salpingo-oophorectomy. Testosterone and prolactin concentrations rapidly decrea...

Unintended placement of a double-J stent in the contralateral renal pelvis during laparoscopic pyeloplasty for pediatric hydronephrosis: a case report
CONCLUSIONS: Misplacement of a DJS in the contralateral renal pelvis during laparoscopic pyeloplasty is a rare but potentially serious complication. Surgeons should be cautious when placing the stent and confirm its placement with imaging studies. Patients should be closely monitored for postoperative complications and prompt intervention should be taken if necessary.PMID:37667946 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202308_33422

Perioperative, functional, and oncological outcomes of robotic vs. laparoscopic partial nephrectomy for complex renal tumors (RENAL score ≥7): an evidence-based analysis
CONCLUSION: Patients with complex renal tumors (RENAL score ≥7), RPN is superior to LPN in decreasing the OT, WIT, LOS, transfusion rate, change in eGFR and the incidence of intraoperative complications while maintaining oncological control and avoiding a decline in renal function. However, our findings need further validation in a large-sample prospective randomized study.PMID:37664014 | PMC:PMC10472455 | DOI:10.3389/fonc.2023.1195910
